Once again, I learned not to underestimate the power of connections<\/p>\n<p>and what I like to call the \u2018small world effect\u2019\u2014the amazing way life seems to have for<\/p>\n<p>bringing people together again in the most unexpected ways and places\u2014even when<\/p>\n<p>doing so seems to defy the odds\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Time and again in my travels, I\u2019ve experienced the uncanny serendipity that often seems<\/p>\n<p>to dictate the paths of many a traveler. On multiple occasions while visiting one country,<\/p>\n<p>by coincidence, I\u2019ve run into an old friend or acquaintance from another country across<\/p>\n<p>the globe. For example, early in my career, I moved to London without a job. As I was<\/p>\n<p>walking down the street, I ran into my old boss from Australia, whom I hadn\u2019t seen in two<\/p>\n<p>years.
